Gratitude for Nature

Awe of nature

Autumn is a beautiful season in New England. The bright reds of the sugar maple trees, the golden yellows of the birch trees and the sunny oranges of the oak trees intermingle magnificently with the decisive greens of the evergreen trees. During my walk today I drank in these colors painted against a bright blue sky. A wonderful feeling of gratitude washed over me in that moment. I had no place to be and no one to meet. It was just the moment in nature and myself. Have you taken the time this season to appreciate nature and its beauty?

Nature connects us

Ralph Waldo Emerson reminds us that nature is God's artwork, part of his creative masterpiece. Nature grounds us. She reminds us of our connection with something greater than ourselves. As we begin to appreciate the natural beauty all around us, we find it easier to appreciate the beauty within us. Take some time this autumn season to appreciate the nature around you. Remind your daughter how magnificent nature is. Remember when she was a toddler and in grade school she brought you back to nature. Return that gift to her.

Here are some ways I appreciate nature:
  • Strolling the sea shore and looking for sea glass
  • Monarch butterflies hatch in the fall. Looking for signs of the monarch butterflies
  • Noticing the bright flowers that linger until the first heavy frost
  • Scouring the trails for heart shaped rocks
  • Leaf pressing
  • Collecting bittersweet
  • Going for walks in the crisp cool air and noticing the vibrant color all around me.
In what ways do you relish nature? Make some time for her this season..
